"LA TRAVIATA"
Act I "Ah, fors' e lui" |
In 1853, Alexander Dumas' play "The Lady Of The Camellias" was chosen by Guiseppe Verdi as his next opera. The tragic story of the beautiful Violetta Valery and her ill-fated romance with Alfredo Germont, was renamed "La Traviata" and became an enduring operatic favorite. As the first act draws to a close, Violetta has just bid good night to her guests at a gala party, during which she has found herself attracted to the charming Alfredo Germont. Now, as she strolls through the empty mansion, she considers how foolish a love affair would be. Then, as she hears Alfredo serenading her from the garden, she realizes that she has already fallen in love! |
