"LaFORZA del DESTINO"
Act4, sc 2. "Pace. Pace, Mio Dio". |
In the many operas he wrote, Giuseppe Verdi often explored the delicate relationship between a father and his daughter. In his opera "La Forza del Destino" Verdi deals with the tremendous guilt Leonora feels for the accidental death of her father at the hands of her lover. When the two escape, they are separated, and desperately try to find each other to be reunited and marry. But the forces of destiny decide otherwise and Leonora, in despair seeks refuge in a monastic hermatige. As the fourth act begins she gives vent to her anguish in the magnificent aria "Pace, Pace, Mio Dio ", in which she begs God for forgivness and peace. |
